Artificial Turf Installation in Georgetown
Artificial turf gives Georgetown homeowners a green, low-maintenance yard every month of the year, with no Saturday mowing, no fertilizer schedule, and no worrying whether today is your assigned watering day. That last piece matters here: Georgetown runs a tighter watering window than Round Rock or Cedar Park and has a history of jumping to Stage 3 in serious droughts. Turf is a yard the drought stage cannot touch.

Tighter Watering Window Than Most, and Stage 3 Is Not Hypothetical
Georgetown Utility Systems (GUS) currently runs Stage 1 restrictions with a two-day-per-week schedule by address ending. Addresses ending in 1, 5, or 9 water on Tuesday or Friday. Addresses ending in 2, 4, 6, or 8 water on Wednesday or Saturday. Addresses ending in 0, 3, or 7 water on Thursday or Sunday. Monday is a no-watering day for everyone.
The watering window itself is tighter than most Central Texas cities: before 9 a.m. or after 7 p.m. only. That is one hour narrower than Round Rock, Cedar Park, and Hutto, and it makes a real difference in July when the sun is already up strong by 8:30. GUS uses hand-watering exceptions for anytime use with a shut-off nozzle and drip irrigation on assigned days.
GUS issues warnings on first observation and citations on subsequent violations under the Water Conservation and Drought Contingency Plan. Enforcement is active. If Lake Georgetown drops below trigger levels, Stage 2 cuts watering to one day per week and Stage 3 prohibits all outdoor watering. Georgetown last reached Stage 3 during the 2011 drought of record, and the current LCRA-region trajectory does not rule out a repeat.
Artificial turf removes the exposure. Zero irrigation demand means the schedule does not apply. If Georgetown moves to Stage 3, your yard stays green regardless.
What we do not do: claim Georgetown offers a rebate for artificial turf. There is no such program. Georgetown’s Green Irrigation rebate covers weather-based controllers and sprinkler-nozzle upgrades. Neither covers synthetic turf.
Georgetown Neighborhoods and Subdivisions
Georgetown is the mix of historic downtown, established country-club communities, and newer master-planned subdivisions. Here is where we install and what to expect.
Wolf Ranch (artificial turf not permitted)
Newer master-planned community west of downtown Georgetown with new-construction inventory. Home prices range from the mid-$400s to over $1 million. Wolf Ranch’s Architectural Guidelines prohibit synthetic or artificial turf. If your address is in Wolf Ranch, we cannot install turf for you and will tell you before quoting.
Rancho Sienna
Master-planned community with miles of trails, scenic ponds, and a 7,000-square-foot amenity center. Adjacent to Wolf Ranch Town Center for shopping. Lot sizes trend moderate with typical suburban footprints. HOA review is a formality when the packet is complete.
Berry Creek and Berry Creek Country Club
Established country-club community with three residential sections, homes from the mid-$300,000s to $2 million, and lot sizes ranging from 1,800 to 5,300 square feet. Country club amenities including golf. Front yards visible from the road, so blend selection matters.
Water Oak at San Gabriel
Newer subdivision along the San Gabriel River with modern construction and generous common areas. Standard suburban lot footprints. HOA is active.
Historic downtown Georgetown lots
The 78626 core has older housing stock with mature landscaping, larger established trees, and less-uniform HOA control. Yards here often show the same Bermuda-under-oaks failure profile seen throughout Central Texas.
Local Landscape Realities
9 a.m. cutoff is real
Georgetown’s watering window ends at 9 a.m., one hour earlier than most surrounding cities. That extra hour matters. By 9 a.m. in July, ambient temperatures are already climbing and irrigation efficiency drops. Homeowners on Bermuda often try to push into the 9-10 a.m. window and eat the fine risk. Turf removes the decision entirely.
Stage 3 is not hypothetical
Georgetown last reached Stage 3 (no outdoor watering at all) during the 2011 drought. Lake Georgetown levels are watched closely, and the trigger for Stage 2 is well-defined. Homeowners who assume “it will not happen again” are betting against a trajectory that has repeated in Central Texas multiple times.
Established downtown pockets have shallow soil
The 78626 core sits on the same Edwards Plateau limestone as the rest of the northern Austin Metro. Base preparation for turf installs works with the soil rather than against it. Ridgeline lots need drainage-plane detailing.
Which Georgetown communities restrict artificial turf
Not every Georgetown community allows synthetic lawns. Two documented examples:
- Wolf Ranch — Architectural Guidelines prohibit synthetic or artificial turf.
- Sun City Georgetown — community design guidelines limit approved lawn types to hybrid Bermuda, hybrid Buffalo, and hybrid Zoysia; the Modification Committee may consider rear-yard putting greens case-by-case.
If your address is inside a community with a synthetic-lawn restriction, we will tell you on the walk-through before quoting the job.

What Georgetown Homeowners Ask on the Walk-Through
What are the fines for water violations in Georgetown?
Georgetown Utility Systems issues warnings on first observation and citations on subsequent violations under the Water Conservation and Drought Contingency Plan. Watering on the wrong day, on Monday, or during the 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. prohibited window all trigger the enforcement pathway.
Why is Georgetown’s watering window an hour tighter than other cities?
Georgetown’s ordinance sets the morning cutoff at 9 a.m. rather than the 10 a.m. used by Cedar Park, Round Rock, and Hutto. That is one hour of additional restriction on top of the same two-day schedule. In practical terms it means the last hour before the ordinance kicks in also happens to be the hottest, least-efficient hour to water.
Does Georgetown offer a rebate for artificial turf?
No. Georgetown’s Green Irrigation rebates cover weather-based controllers and sprinkler-nozzle upgrades. Native-plant conversion is covered elsewhere. Neither program covers synthetic turf.
Will my Georgetown HOA allow artificial turf?
Depends on your specific HOA or community rules. Some Austin-Metro HOAs approve properly-documented artificial turf submissions with preapproval. Others (Wolf Ranch in Georgetown is a documented example) prohibit synthetic grass for standard lawns entirely. We check your specific community’s covenants and design guidelines on the walk-through and will tell you before quoting the job if artificial turf is not permitted for your address.
What if Georgetown moves back to Stage 3?
Stage 3 prohibits all outdoor watering. Bermuda dies within weeks under Stage 3 in Central Texas summer conditions. Artificial turf is unaffected. Homeowners who convert now are hedged against a Stage 3 declaration that Georgetown has reached before in living memory.
What if my Georgetown HOA prohibits artificial turf?
Some Georgetown communities restrict synthetic turf. Wolf Ranch and Sun City Georgetown are two documented examples; others may have similar rules. If your address is inside a restricted community, we tell you on the walk-through before quoting. We do not install where the HOA does not permit it. Sun City residents may still be able to get a rear-yard putting green approved through the Modification Committee.
