A Pool Deck That Looks Like Lawn. Without the Mud Trailed Inside
The kids come out of the pool, cross the lawn ring around the deck, walk into the house on tile. No mud, no dead grass ring, no wet paw prints staying on the concrete for an hour.

Turf works well around a pool and is one of the more common jobs we do, because grass fails there anyway from splash-out, chlorine and traffic. The turf itself is chemical-tolerant rather than chemical-proof, and the real design question is where the water goes, since a pool deck sheds far more water than rain does.
Pool surrounds and patios are a large share of our Austin metro work, particularly in Lakeway, Bee Cave and West Lake Hills, where mature landscaping and slope make a clean grass edge hard to maintain.
What Patio and Pool Turf Fixes
No More Mud Rings
The lawn ring around the pool deck is usually the first section of grass to die and the first spot mud tracks into the house.
Fast Drainage After Splashing
High-flow backing handles splash-out and pool overflow. The turf is walkable within a minute or two.
Cooler Than Concrete or Pavers
Turf gets warm in direct sun but stays measurably cooler than a poolside concrete deck. Rinsing brings the temperature down fast.
What Makes a Pool-Ready Install Different
Chlorine Tolerance
Our blends are UV-stabilized and chlorine-tolerant. Splash-out will not fade or dry-rot the fibers over a normal pool season.
Coping Transitions
The turf edge meets pool coping cleanly with no lifted seams and no water pockets under the turf. This is the difference between a five-year install and a fifteen-year install.
Heat Management
All three of our blends use blade geometries that deflect light and let heat dissipate through the canopy rather than radiate. The manufacturer reports temperatures roughly 15 degrees cooler than average turf under controlled conditions. On a full-sun pool deck, that difference is felt within a few steps.
Blend Options for Pool Surrounds
For barefoot use around a pool, Texas Supreme is the pick. Its C-shape blade is the softest the manufacturer makes and the 5 mm integrated pad smooths the transition off pavers.

Cen-Tex Blend
Right pick for large pool decks or shaded secondary patios where the priority is coverage over softness. 5-year warranty.

Hill Country Blend
Balanced pick for full-size pool decks. 55 oz face weight, 15-year warranty, sheen-free look. Named by an Austin installer as the pick for hot climates.

Texas Supreme
Softest blade the manufacturer makes plus 5 mm of integrated padding. The turf-to-paver transition is barely noticeable underfoot. Best light and heat deflection in the line.

What People Ask About Patio Pool Turf
Will pool chemicals damage artificial turf?
Chlorinated and salt water in normal pool concentrations do not degrade the yarn. The manufacturer’s position, and ours, is chemical-tolerant rather than chemical-proof. Rinse splash-out areas occasionally rather than letting residue sit and dry.
Can turf be installed over an existing concrete pool deck?
Yes, and it is common. The rules change because water can no longer drain straight down, so it has to move sideways to an existing drain or edge. Concrete that ponds now will pond under turf, so we look at where the water currently goes before quoting.
Does turf get hot around a pool?
In full sun yes, the same as the pool deck itself. Wet feet coming out of the water cool it locally. If the surround is unshaded and used barefoot all summer, plan shade into the design rather than adding it as a complaint later.
Does it get slippery when wet?
Turf drains rather than holding a film of water on the surface, so it is generally less slick than smooth wet concrete or tile. It is still a wet surface next to a pool and should be treated as one.
What about the transition to coping and pavers?
That edge is where a pool install is won or lost. Turf has to finish flush and be mechanically secured so it cannot creep. Edging and perimeter fixing get more attention here than anywhere else on a property.
